Welcome to the Belen Veterans Memorial, a testament to valor, courage, and sacrifice. Born from a vision nearly four years ago and brought to life through the dedication of our community and the support of local and state leaders, our memorial stands as a beacon of honor for those who have served. Nestled in the heart of Eagle Park, this sacred ground pays tribute to the enduring spirit of our veterans and their families.
In October 2016, with initial funding of $70,000 from a legislative appropriation thanks to former state Sen. Michael Sanchez, the groundwork for the Belen Veterans Memorial was laid. Spearheaded by U.S. Air Force veteran Eric L. Green and embraced by the Belen city council, the project blossomed with an additional $300,000 in state funds, thanks to the efforts of state Sen. Greg Baca and Reps. Kelly Fajardo, Alonzo Baldonado, and Gail Armstrong.
Today, it stands as a proud symbol of New Mexico’s rich military history and the sacrifices of our service members. The memorial, along with the SPC Henry Byrd III Veterans Visitor Center, serves as a central place for reflection, education, and appreciation of our veterans’ valor and sacrifice.
The SPC Henry Byrd III Veterans Visitor Center is an integral part of the memorial, offering educational resources, exhibits, and a place for personal reflection. It stands as a tribute to the memory of SPC Henry Byrd III and all those who have served. Visitors are welcome to explore the center and gain deeper insights into the lives and sacrifices of our veterans.
